Regarding the Chosen of Lesganagh; Report 63,099a
Your Glorious Majesty,
As you may remember, a few months ago, you tasked your spies to find out anything and everything we could about the rise of a new power in Central Taogh. Please forgive the delay, finding reliable sources in the West after the fall of what remained of Gathran (see Report 62,000b) is difficult.
But, as always, we rose to the challenge.
As stated in Report 62,000b the war between the Phoenix Wizards which began in 1383 K.C. came to an end in 1386 K.C. By that time, nothing of what once was Gathranean heartland remained as it was. Their satellite baronies of Dargh and Janagast had lost all cohesion, and Gathran’s protection had, just as the entire population of Honas Graigh and its outliers, vanished. Where the remains of Gathran vanished to, nobody knows.
Please bear with me, this is necessary to give context.
Gathran’s disappearance had at least one other important consequence. Dragoncrest, older sources call it Dragh’s Rest, lay in the fringes of the original Gathrani territory, and after the Godswar, the Children of Ice imprisoned Dragh at the bottom of a cliff, beneath a plinth. Atop this plinth they built a fortress, and they manned this fortress with twenty-four guardians, the First Ones, the progenitors of the sunargh people.
Over the eons, elves replaced sunarghs, and the Gathrani took it upon themselves to guard the prison against fireling incursion.
It is unknown whether they continued to do so until the end of the Phoenix Wizard War — in these parts they call it the Heir War. Since no fireling has tried to free the god, the question, in my humble opinion, is moot.
My spies have been in touch with Librarians in Ma’tallon, Dunthiochagh, and Herascor, Harail was nearly destroyed during the Heir War, and its Library proved too dangerous to enter. Of the three Libraries investigated, each of those provided a piece of this puzzle. Not that they were all complementary, they all yielded similar information, thus completing the picture.
It seems as if the Lord of Sun and War thought it necessary to have new guards for Dragh’s Hold. Unlike his creation of the First Ones, he went about this task differently. It wasn’t quite like a muster, but it involved a rather complex series of tasks each of the prospective Chosen had to undertake.
In short, it was more akin to a really odd casting progress for a play, with the potential Chosen as the participants. How they decided to take part in this is unclear. Some of the surviving rejects talked of dreams akin to the legends passed down to us from the Age of Heroes. I suspect Cingrib had some influence on the process, but even as I write this I can imagine hearing her laugh in the back of my mind.
I instructed your spies to dig deeper. No one needs a repetition of the Age of Heroes: demigods plowing through cities on one foolhardy quest or another and all for the gods’ amusement is something none of us want to see repeated.
The details are vague, yes, the dreams were inspiring, but there was no mating involved. There seem to be no demigods involved.

One thing that remained constant from the time of the First Ones is the number of Chosen. Twenty-four, just like the gods, or the hours of a day. Their patron is Lesganagh, and he granted them powers to aid in their guardianship of the Hold.
The powers of the Chosen are an utter mystery. A few of your spies managed to talk to a Chosen on the street from Herascor, but even this individual remained silent. Considering a Bloodmage might have folded the spies numerous times in upon themselves, it’s safe to say these Chosen aren’t Bloodmages. But that’s all we can say with reasonable certainty.
We will keep an eye on them, time and patience will reveal more. I’m certain of it.
Your devoted servant
